Wedding

Posted by Akash under Life on July 29th,2007. No Comments.

The past week, my aunt and uncle from California came for our family-friend’s daughter’s wedding. It was a traditional Sikh wedding, though the groom’s family were Hindus. This was my first attendance to a Sikh wedding, and it was different from a Hindu wedding. Thursday night was the Sangeet and Mehndi. There were just some dance performances, music, and the mehndi lady came to put henna on the women. Friday afternoon was when the bride’s side of the family gave gifts to the groom’s side. That evening, the bride’s immediate family gave gifts to all their family and close friends. The bride’s uncle put chudiyan (bracelets) on the bride that night, too.

Saturday morning was the wedding in a banquet hall. The groom actually wore a turban and carried a sword, which is different from Hindu weddings. He also arrived from the parking lot to the entrance on a horse with his family beside him. There was a preliminary thing in the entrance hall, then brunch. The wedding took place at around 11:30 in the hall. The men sat on the ride side of the middle thing, the women on the left, and the bride and bride’s maids in the middle in front of the altar (everyone sat on the floor, by the way). The priest read from the Holy Book and they had to walk around the altar, clockwise, four times (I think it was four… more or less). As the couple walked, a few men were standing around the altar, giving reassurance. My dad was one of them since he knew the bride since she was a little baby. After that, there was lunch and a reception in the evening. The reception was a blast. Great food and bangra dancing.

My aunt and uncle left just now, and this house will be lonely yet again. One of their sons is visiting next week, and my aunt will come here again later that week for my other aunt’s birthday. It’ll never end =) I still have to do my summer work and registration. Bah.

PS – I added a plugin to wordpress so it’ll crosspost everything to LJ.

Oh, Harry Potter.

I finished (finally, no? It only took me two days :P). It was probably the most amazing book that I have ever read, just because I’ve been reading the books for a lifetime and now it’s over. Click on the pretty link to read more!

PS – My friend said this blog is getting really nerdy (from Laptops, to Wordpress, to Harry Potter). Once I have a life, I’ll talk about it.

SPOILER WARNING

Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows

The beginning, I thought, was already so intense. Not like flying cars, fainting on the Express, or getting petrified, but Hedwig died. I guess it was a signal that a lot of people are going to die….Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows

The middle dragged on. It was pretty cool how Harry, Ron, and Hermione did all that researching, guesswork, and solving problems all on their own. When Ron left, it was devastating, but I knew he would come back. It just wouldn’t work if he didn’t. Hermione had the perfect Hermione reaction when he did return, but she went a little overboard.

Then end was absolutely fantastic. It was confusing, with all the love and horcruxes and hallows, but it was awesome. I thought Mrs. Weasley was the best mom ever when she pointed her wand at Bellatrix. Snape, oh Snape. I felt so bad for him during the memory scene. He was a great man. And Dumbledore, he’s full of surprises and explanations. I thought the pre-duel between Harry and Voldemort was, I don’t know… cliché? Maybe? Maybe not. I could just imagine it in my head, those two walking in a perfect circle. The end of the book was the most happiest. The epilogue was so good! It was needed to close this series. Good job, JKR.

RIP: Hedwig the Owl, Mad-Eye Moody, Dobby the Free House Elf, Fred Weasley, Remus Lupin, Nymphadora “Tonks” Lupin, and Professor Severus Snape.

Oh yeah…. Warner Brothers, or whoever makes the movies, have fun making this one!

HARRY POTTER

I’m reading, which is why I’m dead from both of my social worlds. I would’ve been done by now, but I’m reading #6 first, then the 7th. I finished the 6th about an hour ago and I’ll start the 7th later tonight, or tomorrow. I hope to be done in a day or two.

Ciao!

Fanlistings

I joined/am joining so many fanlistings! All of them are on my about page. I also decided to create my own, and surprisingly, there isn’t a fanlisting for Everyhome, so I applied for one. I started making the layout. As I was making it earlier today, I realized that this is the first time I have used Photoshop in weeks. It’s really bad at the moment, so I’ll probably start over many times. On a slightly random note, TheFanlistings.org has approved fanlistings for about anything o.o

I started backing up all my files yesterday for my system recovery. I had to delete quite a few songs, and I did. I deleted about half of my music library. Then, I wrote all the programs that I need to download and install. There was one little problem… our antivirus thing was purchased and downloaded online, and you can’t re-download it unless you bought the Extended Download Service, which of course we didn’t. I went to the customer support and sent an email. Hopefully we can re-download it without buying that service since we are just doing a recovery. If not, we have to buy a new antivirus WITH SOFTWARE. And not Symantec. If anyone has good music to share, tell me. I’ll get the CD.

I have yet to see Harry Potter >.< I heard it was amazing, and I also heard it was too long and disappointing. Either way, I want to see it. I really don’t have time…. well I do, but my mom can’t drop me. Most of my friends have seen it, too. I’ll see it eventually. I’m more excited for the book! Did anyone see it the movie, though?

Wordpress

Posted by Akash under Internet on July 18th,2007. No Comments.

Well, as you can tell, I switched to WordPress a couple of days back, and I think the switch is complete! It was really tough for me, but I did it x.x Some new things include a calendar, a better RSS feed thing, a better archive, and a nice admin panel for me! The only problem is that I made this layout for no side navigation. WordPress uses the sidebar, so now the content is very small. I’ll be sure to make a larger layout next time.

I also added a scrobbler plugin that displays the recent songs that I listened to. I signed up for an account at Last.fm and downloaded the Last.fm program. It is set up so that any song that plays on my iTunes gets “scrobbled” and sent to my recently played list. I think that’s really cool! Click here for my profile on Last.fm and you can add me as a friend if you want to.

Yesterday, my aunt and uncle left for India. It was so sad, and now the house feels so empty… We had so much fun. Oh yeah, my uncle ended up buying a laptop, but at Best Buy. It’s a really nice (and a new model) Sony Vaio that was on sale for $699. It obviously ended up costing more than that with tax, security, software, and a router. It’s a really nice laptop, though =)

I’m also going to do a system recovery for my computer. My computer has just been weird lately. It’s also been SO slow. Hopefully a recovery will help..? I have no idea how to, though. I think you just have to make the recovery disks and back up all the files you want. Then turn off your computer and put in the first disk, and just follow the instructions. Is that right?
