Don’t remind me.

Posted by Akash under Life on August 22nd,2007. No Comments.

First of all, thank you to Hev and Melfina for leaving replies to my previous entries.

Don’t remind me that school is starting in less than a week. I’m finally enjoying summer. I’ve been doing nothing but relaxing the past couple of weeks, and it feels great! The first rehearsal for the jazz group was yesterday, and it went really well. I’m excited for the experience to come, but it’ll be a lot of work.

My cousin, who is getting married this fall, asked me to play piano during the cocktail hour before the wedding (or before the reception, I don’t remember which). I’m so excited! I’m trying to write up a “playlist” of what I should play. I need mostly quiet songs, so if you have any suggestions, feel free to tell me. I am probably going to do some songs from The Fray, because the piano in their songs are so pretty.

Lastly, I finished my fanlisting for everyhome by Chihiro Onitsuka. It’s called Goin’ On, and it’s open for anyone to join. Instead of downloading a fanbase system, I just coded my own, which took up a lot of time (especially listing the countries). The layout turned out purple, for some reason. It was originally a mint color, but my friend told me to make it more blue, and I guess I made it purple. Anyways, go visit!

Webdesign Advice?

EDIT: I moved this blog to BLOG.FALLEN-EMINENCE.NET. Please change all your links by adding “blog.” to the beginning of the URL. Thanks! For now, this main domain redirects here, but that will change once I get a good portfolio set up.
My friend and I are starting a website that will open sometime this fall. I am basically going to do all the coding, so I have a few questions:

  1. Avatars -We want our avatars to be displayed neatly, yet taking up little space. We also need to display three things: Artist, Date, and Image Credit. First of all, do we need to have a link to the image credit, or just put everything on a general credit page? Second, should we put the information to the side of the avatar, having two avatars being displayed in each row, or have it to the bottom of the avatar, displaying four? Or, should we just display the avatars, and have the information pop up on click? My friend and I think displaying on the bottom is the best idea, but what do you all think?
  2. Wallpapers – We are offering wallpapers in three different sizes: 1024×768 [4:3], 1280×1024 [5:3], and 1280×800 [16:10]. Do those sizes and ratios seem good? It covers the common resolutions…
  3. Wordpress – Firstly, there’s an issue unrelated to coding the actual site. I think the .htaccess for WordPress is messing with the .htaccess of other directories. Does anyone else get this problem? If so, how could I fix it? I may actually just move this blog to a subdomain and keep the main domain as my portfolio and network base. Anyways, should I use wordpress for this new graphic design site, or use my own system? I think it may be a hassle to use PHP databases with wordpress, but wordpress is more secure. Right now, I’m leaning towards not using wordpress. I’m actually thinking of switching out of wordpress for this blog…
  4. Headers – My friend would like to use a font that she downloaded for headers, but most people won’t have the font. I am going to use scripts from this article to do that. The only problem is, the headers load slower than the text. Would you recommend doing this? We think that it’s not too much of a problem. But is it worth it?

Thanks for reading, and I would really appreciate your thoughts on these questions.

Let’s scat.

As many of you don’t know… I’m in choir at my school. I auditioned for a jazz group in May for next year, and surprisingly made it. I was really, really excited and overjoyed, but didn’t realize that it was going to be a challenge. Prior to my audition, I never listened to jazz or blues music regularly. I instantly fell in love with Jazz when I went through the audition piece and looked at other jazz music. I even enjoyed listening to the blues. xD

A few weeks ago, I received some of the music in the mail that we will be singing, went through some of it, and put it off to the side. It looked really hard, especially the rhythm things and patterns. I got nervous. I have never heard of any of those songs, except one or two. Just a few minutes ago, I popped in the CD (our teacher was really nice and gave us all a CD with all the songs) and listened. They songs are awesome. I wasn’t nervous anymore, because I was going to most likely enjoy singing these songs! I’m uploading my favorite one, and it’s at the end of this entry. I’m looking forward to being in this jazz ensemble, and if I get CDs of the concerts, I’ll gladly upload some songs to share.

Anyways, thanks for the nice comments and suggestions for this layout! I honestly didn’t think it would be that great since I made it pretty quickly. Thanks to the following for leaving comments:

New Layout

Hey everyone! I hope you all are having a great summer! It’s so hot here… it’s in the 90s. It’s cooling off a bit, but I hate the heat. I prefer the 70s-40s. I have mostly everything ready for school. I still have to do my summer work, but I have supplies and registration done. For me school starts on the 27th of this month. That’s only like… three weeks. Noooooooo……

Anyways, as you can see, a new layout is up for this site. It’s a little bigger and spacey. I think it’s one of my better ones. It’s simple, yet bold and bright. It uses a lovely stock image that I found on stock.xchng. Thanks a whole lot to the owner of the lovely images of burnt cards: clix. The patterns used in this layout are from the one and only Squidfingers. I really like the colors… I think this is one of the first time I used bold colors while making it look decent! I hope you like this layout =) Any suggestions/comments are welcome.

PS – The portfolio page is up and running. I still have to make it pretty and add different sorting pages (like sort by most popular, by category).
